Gov. Josh Shapiro and his top human services official spoke on their administration’s plan to reduce and potentially eliminate the waitlist keeping disabled individuals and their families from accessing support in a visit to the non-profit BARC Developmental Services in Warminster on Wednesday.

Nearly 4,500 families are on the waitlist and non-profit organizations are struggling to attract or keep staff, with representatives from BARC stating they face a worker vacancy rate of 48%.

The plan would initially involve increased salaries to boost the salaries of employees who, through nonprofit service agencies, work with intellectually disabled people and their families.
