York County District Attorney Dave Sunday defeated former Auditor General Eugene DePasquale in the Attorney General’s race. Sunday is the first Republican since 2008 to win the office.
Republicans will control the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office for the first time in over a decade with York County District Attorney Dave Sunday on track to defeating Eugene DePasuale.
DePasquale conceded to Sunday Wednesday on congratulated him for his victory.
“Dave worked hard and earned this victory. I also want to thank all of the people who supported our campaign. Your energy and passion will always be with me,” DePasquale said in his concession statement.
It was the first time Republicans won the office since then-AG Tom Corbett was reelected in 2008.
Sunday has served as York County’s District Attorney since 2016 and focused his campaign on combating crime and the opioid epidemic.
His campaign was buoyed by Pennsylvania’s richest billionaire Jeffrey Yass, who has a net worth of close to $50 billion, and his network of political action committees (PACs).
PACs associated with the billionaire spent over $5 million on TV ads and mailers attacking DePasquale in the final weeks of the campaign.
