Looking for something decadent? Something chocolate? Something out of this world to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

The Friends of the Meyersdale Public Library’s annual Death by Chocolate event is just the ticket. It is a chocolate extravaganza with a judging competition, auction and bake sale as an annual fundraiser for the library.

The event is at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at Amity United Church of Christ, 315 Center St., Meyersdale.

Contest entries are judged in these categories: 1) Cakes/Pies; 2) Cookies/Bars; 3) Candy. The entries may be submitted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 13. Judging criteria are based on chocolate intensity, eye appeal and overall taste. An auction of the submitted items will follow the judging.

“It’s actually become a fun fundraiser to put together,” said chairwoman Pam Walukas. “People are so creative with ideas they come up with for their decorated entries.”

The library will also be hosting a bake sale of items donated for the fundraiser. Items can be brought to the library at 210 Center St., Meyersdale, between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 13. They will be available at the library until all the donations are sold.

“The bake sale is equally important. I really want to express my appreciation for the people baking, the people buying and the people who come to the church for the auction,” Walukas said. “It’s a very fun evening. Thanks to everybody who participates in whatever way they can. It’s truly a community event.”
