Food banks are a lifeline for those struggling with food insecurity. Here are six organizations throughout the state that could use your donation of food and/or time.
As our communities throughout Pennsylvania try to heal after such a divisive election season, one way to help the healing begin is by volunteering to assist those in need.
Local food banks are doing their best to offer a helping hand to those in our communities struggling with food insecurity. These organizations rely on the help of others, and are a great place to volunteer your time and/or donate items.
Here are six organizations located across the state dedicated to providing food for those in need. The state Department of Human Services has a comprehensive database of food banks here.
Central Pennsylvania Food Bank
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank supports more than 1,130 partner agencies and programs—including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency food providers and more—throughout a 27-county service area. To find one near you in the central part of the state, click here.
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank supports more than 1,000 partner agencies across 11 counties to make sure no one has to go hungry. To find one near you in the western part of the state, click here.
Media Food Bank
The Media Food Bank serves all Delaware County residents. Food distribution times are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Food donations are accepted every day of the week from 2 to 4 p.m.
Philabundance
Philabundance works with 350 community partners to distribute food throughout nine counties. To find one near you in the southeastern part of the state, click here.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania supports a network of organizations throughout 11 counties, providing food through food pantries and soup kitchens. To find one near you in the northwest part of the state, click here.
Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank
The Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank provides food to alleviate hunger and promote proper nutrition throughout four counties. To find a food pantry near you in the northeastern part of the state, click here.
