Passenger rail advocates throughout Pennsylvania are celebrating this week following the avalanche of news regarding the expansion of passenger rail access throughout the commonwealth. 

The proposed rule would require utility companies to locate and dig up roughly 689,000 lead pipes statewide within 10 years to ensure clean drinking water for Pennsylvanians and to protect children’s health.

In Pennsylvania, $13.8 billion in funding has been announced, with over 300 specific infrastructure projects identified for funding. Approximately $10 billion will go to transit upgrades in the state, and over $650 million for clean water and water infrastructure.

This funding’s aim is to help connect the estimated 8.5 million families and small businesses nationwide that still haven’t been able to access the full capabilities of modern technology.

A day after the collapse, officials said an exact timeline for the complete rebuilding of the heavily traveled highway should be available in the coming days.

Since taking over in January, Gov. Josh Shapiro has put an emphasis on Pennsylvania’s infrastructure. Last month, he announced $58 million for 157 new projects across the Keystone State.
