As a Presidential Appointee, Melissa A. Herd leads Region 3 for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), managing intergovernmental and external affairs across five states, the District of Columbia, and six Federally recognized Tribes. Prior to joining the Office of the Regional Director in 2014, she worked with the Regional External Affairs team at CMS, where she focused on Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and faith-based initiatives. Melissa A. Herd has also served as Diversity Account Manager at the American Red Cross and was Chair of the Board of Directors for The Wardrobe, a nonprofit supporting women in transition.
