Philadelphia’s police commissioner says a police officer who shot and killed a driver who was sitting in his car last week in north Philadelphia is being suspended and will be fired.

A man facing eviction opened fire at officers from inside a Pittsburgh home Wednesday, shooting down police drones and prompting evacuations in the neighborhood.

EMS responders pronounced the man dead early Wednesday evening after the hourslong standoff.

Natural gas from an abandoned underground mine is unlikely to have caused the explosion authorities said. The homeowners were reportedly having problems with their hot water tank and that is part of the investigation into the cause.

The annual festival had been scheduled for Sept. 2-3 with Lizzo and SZA as the headliners.

The Dauphin County coroner’s office said Tuesday that 39-year-old Alioune Diop of the Bronx, New York, and 26-year-old Serigne Ndiaye, whose residence is unknown, died of multiple traumatic injuries in the crash shortly before midnight Sunday north of Harrisburg.

The wreck happened during heavy rain just before midnight on Sunday, according to state police. The three passengers were declared dead at the scene.

Before imposing the sentence on Robert Bowers, Judge Robert Colville said “I have nothing specific that I care to say to Mr. Bowers. I am however convinced there is nothing I could say to him that might be meaningful.”

Robert Bowers spewed hatred of Jews and espoused white supremacist beliefs online before carrying out the 2018 massacre at the Tree of Life synagogue, the worst antisemitic attack in US history.
