Dallas Cheddar, the stray dog who was rescued from a York County cornfield last week after being spotted with a cheese ball container on her head is recovering from her ordeal.
In a Facebook post, the Canine Rescue of Central PA said the pup has been to the veterinarian for a checkup and is being treated for two different tick diseases. Dallas Cheddar is being cared for by foster parents who have been giving her extra fluids to ensure she stays hydrated.
“The good news is her lab work is where it should be,” the rescue wrote. “The focus over the next few weeks is hydration, relaxation, and to come up to a healthy weight slowly.”
Dallas was first spotted last Monday near Dillsburg, though a volunteer search party was unable to find her until a drone spotted her in the cornfield early last Wednesday. In footage shared by the rescue, volunteers were seen comforting Dallas as they tried to lead her out of the field with the cheese ball container still on her head.
She was given her first name, Dallas, after Dallas Fuhrman, the volunteer drone operator who helped rescue her. The rescue told CBS-21 that Cheddar seemed like a fitting last name given that she was found with a cheese ball container on her head.
The cheese balls are a product of Bickel’s Snack Foods, a division of Hanover-based Hanover Foods, and the company announced that it is covering Dallas Cheddar’s vet bills.
“Long story short, our company decided to pay the veterinary fees associated with getting Dallas Cheddar back on her paws out of our love for dogs and to unconditionally give back to the community who support our brand,” the company posted on Facebook. “Let’s all hope for her speedy recovery.”
The company is scheduled to present a check to the rescue, and meet Dallas, at an event at the rescue on Tuesday evening.
